Aquarium nets: helping you catch your fish
Decorative fish in the aquarium lead a safe life: they are fed regularly, well looked after and normally don’t have to worry about hostile predators. But sometimes, there are situations in the domestic underwater world where fish must be caught. Nets are an important tool for this and also for removing algae or dirt.
Why do I need an aquarium net?
If you keep an eye on your aquarium carefully, you will notice abnormalities quickly. If, for example, a fish is sick, you should take it out of the aquarium and put it into a quarantine tank to treat the fish and avoid infection. In order to transfer fast fish stress free you should use a net for the aquarium. You can not only catch fish, prawns and other inhabitants of the aquarium with a suitable net: you can also remove leftover feed flakes, loosened plant parts or smaller decorative objects from the water with the net without having to reach into the tank with your hand.
How can I disinfect an aquarium net?
Disinfection of aquarium accessories such as fish nets is important – especially if the net was used to separate sick fish. If you care for different tanks, you should use a separate net for each. You can use different methods for disinfecting after use:
- Rinse with clear water and dry thoroughly (after cleaning in a healthy tank).
- Disinfection bath in salt or alcohol solution.
- You can use disinfectants for aquarium supplies according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Never let the net stay damp: bacteria or particles can multiply and develop mould on the mesh.
How do I use an aquarium net?
To avoid stressful situations in the tank trying to catch a fish, you should occasionally use the net in the tank to hold the fish in the aquarium so that the fish get used to the net and do not try to avoid it when it needs to be used. In order to make the capture as stress-free as possible, it is advisable to use a smaller and a larger net. With the smaller one, you direct the fish into the larger version.
What to consider with a net?
Nets differ in their mesh strength, in the material and in the length of the stem. It makes sense to have a selection of different models at hand, depending on the intended use and type of animal to be caught: the smaller the fish, the closer the mesh should be. There are special shrimp and snail nets in which you can gently capture these sensitive animals. You can find different styles of decorative fish scissors from AniOne in our online shop.
