In principle, there are three types of cat litter: mineral litter (clumping and non-clumping variants available), organic litter and silicate litter. All varieties have their advantages and disadvantages. Mineral clumping litter is the most commonly used variant, because it clumps particularly well. However, this type of litter is very heavy and often develops dust, which can lead to allergies. Biological cat litter like Cat’s Best or Biokat’s is lighter than mineral litter, develops hardly any dust, clumps well and binds odours. It is also very economical and biodegradable. However, this cat litter often get very widely spread across the home due to its light weight. Silicate litter is of medium weight, binds odours well and develops very little dust. However, this type of cat litter does not clump and is more expensive compared to the other varieties.
