Just like with their owners, the amount of food depends on the cat’s age, weight and activity level. The resting metabolic rate is about 36 kcal per kilogram of the cat’s body weight, multiplied by a corresponding factor – e.g. x 2.5 for playful kittens and x 1.2 for neutered cats. Indoor cats require less wet feed than outdoor cats. The information on the respective packaging serves as a guideline, with plus/minus tolerance limits. In general, it can be said: the higher the quality of the wet feed for cats, the more filling it is and the less is required. Kittens can eat as much as they want thanks to their natural feeling of satiation. As a rule, they are given up to five meals per day, while adult cats get two to three. However, for overweight cats who are supposed to lose weight, it is important to stick to scheduled feeding times and not exceed the maximum quantity. The easiest way for them to lose weight is through low-calorie food.
