Cat neckband: practical neck decoration for your furry friend
Unlike dogs, cats do not have to carry their ‘papers’ with them: they do not carry a tax mark and are only put on a lead in exceptional cases. There are different reasons for cats wearing cat collars: parasite defence and safety. You can get a cat collar for outdoor cats and house cats from providers such as AniOne.
What do I need to know about cat collars?
There are different things to bear in mind, depending on why you want your furry friend to wear a cat collar. It is always an advantage if your cat is used to wearing a collar; there are then fewer problems if a surgical collar or a vermin collar gets prescribed on medical grounds. One point, however applies to all fields of application: the self-opening emergency lock. A collar for an animal that enjoys being in bushes and undergrowth, under and on top of furniture always poses a certain risk: the animal can get snagged and get into awkward situations. Regardless of whether your house cat is on the move in the neighbourhood or around the home, please only use cat collars that have a safety fastener. This opens in an emergency if your pet gets entangled or gets into a fight with other cats. A cat collar is also a practical way of demonstrating that your pet has an owner: you can put your phone number on a nylon collar if your cat gets itself lost.
What types of cat collars are there?
Traffic safety: if your furry friend is often outdoors and perhaps also has dark fur, a reflective cat collar makes sense. It will make it easy to spot even in poor lighting conditions and drivers will spot it more easily.
Vermin: If you choose a flea or tick collar, make sure that the active ingredient is explicitly declared cat-friendly.
Technology: equipped with a GPS collar, you can locate your house cat when you need to. To use some models of cat flap, your pet also needs to wear an appropriate ID chip on the body or collar.
How close-fitting does the cat collar need to be?
Please make sure you adjust the cat collar carefully: if it is too loose, the risk of tangle or slipping increases, if the collar is fastened too tightly, breathing is impaired and chafing can occur. Measure your cat’s collar width using your hand: there should be two fingers between the collar and the neck of your cat.
