Dog cushions: animal-friendly places for your dog to sleep
Dogs sleep or rest for around 17 hours a day. For this, they need a place where they can relax undisturbed, which is comfortable on the one hand, and which relieves their joints on the other. Some dogs like to lie stretched out, while others make themselves as small as possible. As such, your dog’s sleeping place should always be tailored to their individual needs. And so that your dog can also lie comfortably when travelling, the range even includes extra cushions for use in a transport box, in addition to dog cushions for use in a basket.
What size should a dog cushion be?
Have you ever noticed which position your dog likes to sleep in? This can play a key role in choosing a suitable cushion for them. If they often lie on their side, for example, you should buy a round rather than oval dog cushion. The general rule of thumb for determining the size is: you should generally expect a clearance of an additional 30 cm around your dog’s body. You can choose between cushions in size XS (e.g. 55×70 cm) to XXL (e.g. 140×110 cm).
What are orthopaedic dog cushions good for?
An orthopaedic dog cushion specifically relieves the strain on the spine and joints. The core where your dog lies adapts to the condition of their body and thus ensures pressure relief when they lie down. These cushions are particularly suitable for heavy, old dogs as well as animals with joint or muscle weakness.
Which fabric is suitable for a dog cushion?
The filling plays a key role in ensuring your dog is comfortable when lying down. High-quality filling material is usually made of viscose foam. However, micro-pearl cushions are also well suited for dogs. A dog cushion made of faux leather is particularly hard-wearing and has a cooling effect in the summer. However, some dogs don’t like this material and perhaps prefer cotton. A water-repellent coating is advisable if the dog cushion is to be used outdoors. A scratch and bite resistant coating is also useful. Most dog cushions can be washed at 30 or 40 degrees. It is best to use a fragrance-free detergent when washing. After all, as we all know, dog’s noses are very sensitive.
