Treat pouch: for the little snack between meals
When you are getting ready to go for walkies or do some dog training, you should not forget one of the most important pieces of gear: the snack or treat pouch. After all, the training of dogs works best with rewards – and with dogs, that usually means food. A praise, accompanied by a little treat, confirms that the dog has done something right.
Which food belongs in the treat bag?
Dog dry food and dog treats are suitable rewards for feed pouch training. The dog snacks should be sized according to your dog – that is, big bits for a little Chihuahua are not advisable for training. Dogs should be able to chew the snacks from the feed pouch without problems and without swallowing hard pieces. That’s why you can also feed regular dog dry food from the treat pouch for the purpose of rewards. You can quickly find out what appeals to your dog the most. However, you should only fill the snack pouch with dry treats. Hard chewable items that your dog can choke on are not suitable.
What is important with dog snacks for the feed pouch?
With animal food explicitly labelled as dog treats, it is worth looking at the ingredients and nutritional information. Don’t forget to include the food in the total food intake for the day: the snacks from the feed pouch are a supplement to the usual dog food and must not become an “unhealthy” snack for the dog.
What should I consider when it comes to treat pouches?
When you are out and about with the dog and playing with or training it the reward treat should always be at hand. So that you don’t have to pull out the small snack from your handbag, Hunter or Trixie snack pouches are recommended, which can be attached to a belt with a loop or hook or have a strap. The snack pouch must be hygienic and easy to clean: water-repellent material is another important criterion, as the food in the treat pouch should not become moist. Ensure a secure fastening: pull cords or hook and loop fasteners are particularly practical. Do not allow your dog to use the feed pouch for tugging games: the feed pouch is not a toy and must not be “hunted”.
What special treat pouches are there?
Elaborate belt pouches have various compartments for a selection of delicacies. The so-called snack dummies, throw-and-bring items, which are filled directly with snacks, are an original combination of feed pouches and dog toys. This way your dog can be rewarded directly from the feed dummy after successful retrieval. In the Maxi Zoo online shop you will find a large selection of practical treat pouches for dogs from well-known manufacturers such as Hunter, AniOne, Trixie and many more.
