How to find the right lead for your dog!
The world of dog leads is huge: guide leads, drag leads, short leads, jogging leads or retractable leads are only a small part of the large selection. One thing is certain: dog leads and dog collars or harnesses are part of every dog’s basic equipment. But which dog lead is suitable for which purpose and suits both dog and human?
How does a dog lead work?
The main function of the dog lead is clear: it creates a firm connection between dog and human and thus ensures control and safety. But a dog lead can do more. It is an important means of communication that helps the dog to orientate itself to its human and, in addition, a valuable tool for dog training. A lead, often made as a leather lead or adjustable dog lead, is the model for everyday use. An adjustable lead can also be used as a jogging lead. If you want to give your dog more freedom of movement, a retractable lead is ideal; it gives your dog more freedom to satisfy his urge to move and his curiosity, and automatically remains gently taut. A nylon dog lead or retractable lead is also available as a reflective lead. These models increase safety and visibility in the dark. A drag lead, on the other hand, is an important tool in dog training. As an extended arm, the extra long dog lead helps you to enforce commands gently but consistently.
How wide should the dog lead be?
A dog needs several leads in its lifetime. Puppies and young dogs are still growing. A narrow lead offers security and adds little weight to the collar of the still immature animal. As a rule of thumb, the smaller and lighter the dog, the narrower the lead should be. Large and strong dogs, on the other hand, need wider models. Round sewn dog leads are a special case. These may appear narrow and delicate, but a strong rope built into the lead ensures the necessary safety even for large dogs.
How long should the dog lead be?
The length of the lead depends on what you will use it for. For dog sports, a lead with a length of one metre is just right. In everyday life, an adjustable lead with a length of two to three metres is well suited. It is comfortable to use and gives the dog freedom of movement when needed. In our shop you will find the right lead for your dog from well-known brands such as AniOne or MORE FOR.
