Burrowing, gnawing, exploring and climbing are among the main activities of gerbils. Therefore, when it comes to the choice of housing, the larger, the better applies. A gerbil’s housing should contain everything the animals need for their well-being. This includes the right bedding, which must be several centimetres high, so that the gerbils can let off steam by burrowing. Suitable feeding and drinking bowls are also an indispensable accessory for gerbils. The bowls must be made of robust clay or ceramics so that they do not tip over easily. A bowl with fine sand is also important in a gerbil’s housing, because the animals are very clean. They like to roll in the sand, which is how they clean their fur.
